Motivation is not enough- you must work

Motivation is not enough- you must work

This is a phrase which I recently came across from one of my favorite motivational youtube channel. This phrase just got stuck in my mind because I used to watch a lot of motivational videos and feel that fire for that three or four minutes and then I will return to my usual routine. Nothing changed. But this phrase, this simple phrase has got me thinking. This is what a lot of us do. We hear to those motivational speeches of all the successful people, we just listen but we never try and never apply it in our real life. You can say that "Hey, not everyone's lives are the same." Yes. We all have different lives and encounter different problems and different circumstances and that is what makes each one of us unique. But have you ever wondered what is that thing that is stopping you from trying something new? Where is all that fire that prevails when we are watching those videos goes afterward? The thing is we are simply afraid and the anticipation about the future kills that motivation afterward. The two simple words "what if" is a powerful tool to kill your innovation and stops you from trying something different. Never listen to those words and pull yourself away from doing something great.

Just listening to the motivational speeches of those great people is not enough. You should remember that they were once like you, didn't know where to start, struggling to fight the people around them who were constantly discouraging them and laughing at them. But they all had one thing in common. They were ready to fight for what they want, despite the hardships. They had the endurance and commitment to achieve what they decided to. They knew that it is going to be hard and yet they were willing to pay the price and in return, they won the ultimate prize. So, you are likely to come across critics, haters, doubters, and the naysayers in every walk of your life. When you have a lot of haters and naysayers it means you are trying something different and shining brightly alone from the group. Don't listen to them and degrade yourself because you know your value. You are talented and skillful. You have the capacity and ability. All you have to is win your fears with guts and start doing it. Start now because sometimes later becomes never.

Just don't dream about success but work for it. Make your dreams come true by working with determination and like a laser like focus. You will not achieve it the very next day but you will, in time if you are true to yourself and to the amount of effort that you are putting. Have patience and keep trying until you get it. There is no one to stop you except yourself. Be remembered for doing something great and live as an inspiration to the people around the world. Be an example to them by proving to the world that anything is possible if you are ready to fight for it. So, when you become old and look back in your life you should be saying "I am glad I did that" rather than saying "I wish I did that" and regretting for the rest of your life.

Remember "Nothing worth having comes easy." It is worth the battle. This is one of my most favorite quote which I always remember when I am fighting for something that I really want "If you don't fight for what you want, then don't cry for what you lost."

Thanks for reading. Good luck.

This is true. Thanks for the good reminder. Motivation is great, but effort is required.

The article is well said.
Motivation will last only until you allow it to last. For example, as you stated so vividly, it can last for the length of a 3 to minute video. I think what holds people back can be summarized under at least the following three diseases:
A. Fear--fear of failure and even fear of success
B. Procrastination
C. Negative thinking/self-sabotage

Some medicine for those diseases might include the following:
a. Fear stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. Failure will provide a great education. Success will take care of itself.
b. Procrastination--time on Earth is short. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. The time to get things rolling is now.
c. Negative thinking/self-sabotage-- Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. We come up with excuses such as I can't do this, I don't have that and I don't know how. If we were going on a job interview would we say such negative things about ourselves? I don't think we would. A house divided against itself cannot stand.

We should learn to motivate ourselves and allow it to spur us on to success. We should not always search for someone to motivate us. They won't always be available and even if they are it will only last but 3 or 4 minutes.

I like your words about "Just don't dream about success but work for it. Success is bigger than just motivation. There is a famous quote that says "Some people dream about success while others get up every morning and work for it". You gotta hustle and put in that work.

Thank you for your article.

I agree totally motivation is just a way of uplifting someone to greater heights and to give them hope to let them know that you can go as far as you want to go as long as you are willing to work hard at what you want to achieve. Have a motivational week everyone.

There is also one another reason, the summer and social life.
I don't think these advice are bad, they are maybe just too harsh.
The motivated people usually accomplish much more with a very short time because they are inspired.
You can work like a dog the whole day, and make really nothing or near nothing.

Thank you, everyone, for reading. I wrote this article because this is what how I exactly felt after watching that motivational video. It was like slapping me. The words were too harsh which reminds me of the reality that I am wasting time simply worrying about the past things that happened in life rather than moving on thinking about a solution. I am glad that this is useful for you, my friends. :)

Motivation does have its place though. I hope the intent of this article is not to disparage motivation as being nothing. Several healthcare staff often commit suicide because they say they are not motivated enough and they do a lot of work. Same for police officers and firefighters. We all need motivation everyday.

Dreams without work is a dead dream. those speeches should be an inspiration not an end itself if you are looking to make a progress in any area of your life, you need people to motivate you, this will help to steer you and encourage you to work to success.so motivation is still in order.

This is inspiring, you have take your time to really dig out facts of generality. I see motivation as a driving factor but your determination is the engine towards success. Indeed the word "what if" is procrastinating tools that has prevented lots of people from succeeding in life.

It's easier if you have motivation, but hard work (or hard luck) is only way to success.

I totally agree. We have basic motivational drive - extrinsic and intrinsic. Well, both don't really work unless you are really driven to work.

I am a newbie. I need help in posting articles here. I really don't know how.
