When serving others, one does not have to be religious. Just do what is right. I am by no means a genius, but I have noticed that when I do serve others, I feel loved and appreciated.
Here are a few tips:
Hold the door
Being a girl, I even hold the door! I even hold the door for men.
Return the shopping cart
This is something nice to do for grocery store employees, especially during the winter season.
Drive someone lacking transportation
Does someone need to go to church? The grocery store? The bank? To work?
Buy a meal
My loved ones mostly had homemade meals, but they would treat me to breakfast sometimes, lunch sometimes and dinner sometimes. They did not know, but I would order the cheapest items on the menu!
Buy a gift card
One of my roommates loves for Santa and Mrs. Santa to give her Wal-Mart gift cards for Christmas!
Clean a house/mow their lawn/shovel their snow
When I lived with my family, there was a couple not far away that I was fond of. I would polish their house and mow their lawn. The Mrs. would give me a lemonade and root beer floats. The Mr. would give me a $20 bill and would tell me to go buy a new dress.
Teach a skill
I wish that I would have been taught how to cook and bake. I had to teach myself.
Give to a charity
Do something! Even if something small! You do not have to give money! Give a few moments every so often. A pro-life organization used to send me return address labels. I would use the return address labels on all of my mail. Do you realize how many people see your mail as the mail gets processed?
Give someone a compliment
I have not had a man in my life in over 10 years. Around here, men are either gay or married. I have recenlly met a man new to the area. I ran into him a few days agp. I was not wearing any makeup! He gave me a hug and old me that I am beautiful without makeup. Felt good!
Give away clothing and books that are collecting dust
There is a box at my church for clothing to be given away. Next week, I am even going shopping for some clothing for this box. Then, I have some from my closet.
Do not gossip
There have been people I had to listen to over the years who did nothing but gossip. I learned to watch what to say around such people or let what I have said be spread throughtout the universe.
Give a thank you
I am always telling my landlord “thank you”. For example, last weekend, our bathroom plumbing got stuck. We roommates could not fix it. Instead of having maintenance come out on a weekend, our landlord fixed the plumbing himself.
That’s it! Now did that cost much?
The holiday season is coming up and you know what that means… the Season and Spirit of Giving.
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas a little early!
