While hosting
The Daily Show,
Sarah Silverman's comedic genius related America's recent spy-balloon battles to guar gum, and asked "What
is guar gum?"
Ignoring her conclusion--"No one knows what it is; but we're eatin' it, baby!"--I took it as 'an assignment' to find out and give the report.
And--just like in college--that meant "Ask Wikipedia, and cut/paste
their answer for your report!"
Guar gum, also called guaran, is a galactomannan polysaccharide extracted from guar beans that has thickening and stabilizing properties useful in food, feed, and industrial applications.[1] The guar seeds are mechanically dehusked, hydrated, milled and screened according to application.[2] It is typically produced as a free-flowing, off-white powder.
"Guar" is built on ancient words that mean "Cow-Herder's Cucumber." - xGuar xGuarGum xGuaran
