Real life humans who were inspiration for the creation of Marvel and DC characters,

Postby Netherrealmer » 17 May 2024, 13:18

I made one from Street Fighter characters before so this time I decided to make a design origin story for superheroes.
Marvel

Iron Man- Howard Hughes is a renaissance man, Businessman He is a Pilot, Inventor, and Pilot. So When Stan Lee tries to make a character who is a Billionaire who can match Batman from DC, Tony Stark AKA Ironman became Marvel's answer. They based Ironman's attitude and characteristics from him. When Robert Downey Junior gets the role of Tony Stark, He uses Elon Musk as inspiration.

Professor X and Magneto-

Professor X and Magneto became hero and villain for the same reason, They want to defend Mutants from Humans. X-men is inspired from the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, Its when African Americans demands equality from Caucasian Americans. Lets say Martin Luther King's method for fighting for his rights is more palatable for people while Malcolm X is misunderstood. They became the inspiration for making Professor X and Magneto. Only difference is the Professor is a billionaire while Magneto is a Holocaust Survivor. Professor X's likeness though is inspired from Hollywood actor Yul Brynner.

DC Comics

Harley Quinn - Paul Dini watches the soap opera Days of Our lives because his friend Arleen Sorkin is there. One episode of the Soap opera, There is a dream sequence where Arleen Sorkin's character wears a Harlequin clown costume. This is the Soap Opera scene that triggers Paul Dini to create this iconic Batman villain:

After that He created Harley Quinn as a one off villain for Batman Animated series but she became a fan favorite. Harley Quinn was voiced by Arleen Sorkin for decades, yes she is inspired from her voice actress. After Arleen retired from acting the Role was given to Tara Strong. Now in live action films she is played by Margot Robbie and Lady Gaga. Arleen Sorkin died of cancer last year.

Stargirl - Geoff Johns is a writer in DC. He is given a chance to make a Superhero. His sister Courtney Whitmore died of cancer so to honor her, He turned her into a Super Hero. he decided to write her as a Superhero with her secret identity to be his sister. He makes a fantasy where his sister didnt die of cancer and became a superhero powered by Jesus instead.

She is a staff using Superhero(she uses the staff to fly as well) Her staff is made of the metal spear Roman soldiers used to stab Jesus hence her powers came from Jesus. She got popular enough to have a 3 season tv show that is complete and not canceled. Yes the show got complete run.

Great topic, thanks for sharing it on ForumCoin. I was aware of the connection between Iron Man and Elon Musk, but not the Howard Hughes connection, that is interesting.

Do you know how well Lady Gaga does in the role of Harley Quinn?

Gaga's Harley disappointed me a bit. Harley is a New Yorker, Gaga is a New Yorker but Gaga decided to not use her natural accent so she wont be compared to Arleen Sorkin and Margot Robbie.

Now Stark dispointed me. He is visioner like Musk but Musk is child who don't have what to do. Ok, Tony does sometimes same thing but not as Elon. Also don't stuck head in everything like Musk with saved kids in Asia.

Tony Stark is not a purehearted hero though. He had sex with almost every single adult woman in Marvel comics.

Upon reading the title of this thread, I suspected that Elon Musk would feature at some point.
True, Musk is a big name especially in business.

In my view, Musk should not be a positive inspiration to anyone. His racism and rebellious attitude can only be emulated by misfits.

This is pretty cool! I also know that Raven's design from the New Teen Titans comics is based around Marv Wolfman's wife's dance instructor. As for her own character traits, I don't believe they're based on anyone in particular.

I would more say he is inspired with Stephen Hawking. Stephen is famous pyhsics so smart as Professor and he is in wheelchair, also as Professor. They just changed his look and add it more serious and attractive to audience. Stephen had an ALS.
I guess his look is more inspired with Captain Jean Luc Picard, most famous captain of Enterprise.

Wow! That is an interesting post. It's nice to know that Professor X has inspiration from Stephen Hawking. Amazing to know that! Yes, they had a need to change ths look and appearance to attract audience. A simple looking Professor X just like Hawking in real life would also have been interesting and maybe liked by the audience

Elon Musk is a fitting inspiration for the Iron Man character.
Musk is as hard as diamond when it comes to riding against the grain.
I bet the man loves stoking controversy.

One of the most prominent villains in DC comics is Amanda Waller, she is a Politician with extreme vision of protecting America. DC writers made her by visualizing an evil republican Oprah.

Image

She is the one who puts bombs on the brains of Suicide Squad members. DC comics actually offered Oprah to play Amanda Waller but she declines.

She is real bad ass. This is example how ordinary character (she is chubby) without special powers can be strong opponent so even superheroes afraid of her.

I don't know if anyone views Elon Musk as an inspiration for the character of Iron Man given their drive and passion for technology.

I wonder how the creators of DC comics convinced Oprah to accept such negative portrayal.
Given her high social standing, money must have changed hands. A lot of it.
