Wrecking ball apparently originally have a different lyrics.

The demo version of the song is about a woman in an abusive relationship. They change the 2nd person perspective pronouns to 1st perspective pronouns to change its meaning. The Original demo version is about a woman in a Physically abusive relationship. Miley's version is about woman who felt like she is in a one sided relationship with her boyfriend.

This is chorus of Miley's version:

I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

This version seemed like about a woman who feels like her man is getting cold on her.

The original version is more Physically abusive:

You came in like a wrecking ball
You never hit so hard in love
All you wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me
You hit me in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

In essence, the pronoun perspective change transforms the song from potential cry for help from a victim of abuse in the demo version to a a reflection on a failing relationship. I think They change the lyrics since as chaotic Miley's relationship is, its never physically abusive, just cheating.

If you want to know what the demo sounds like, Here it is:

The demo version is darker since its about physically abusive relationship.

Interesting, it was a very successful song, at least partially because of its video. Do you know who wrote the song Netherrealmer?

This Miley chorus carries completely different feelings. If you listen carefully, you can see that it is a story of a dem trying to enter full force with love but his partner remains cold and has no response. He throws himself like a wrecking ball, wanting to break the walls, but instead of being well received, he ends up getting hurt and falling badly. It remains a one-sided love like a crow crying at night.
