Discouraged And Disappointed

Postby Spontaneo » 13 Jan 2025, 11:16

Hello. I am very disappointed. We are asked to submit new topics, at least 1 per day. Yes?

I do my best to submit new and fresh topics as best as I can.

Yet, I barely receive a reply.

Would you tell what you are interested in discussing? I do not want to waste my precious moments or your's.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Spontaneo

We are not a foodie community. I Dont think people are interested with slushies and milkshakes.

@Fergal has said in the past, to discuss what we are thinking about if we want. I am interested in milkshakes.

I would make sure that I post something new from next time when I visit the site. We need more topics to be there for more active participation.

It's just a suggestion. Nobody actually has to post new topics every day. Personally I will add one when I have something I particularly want to share, but that's not going to be every day.

I'm sorry you have been disappointed. It's a hit or miss thing. When you post more topics some of them will interest people and others won't.

Edit: I didn't really answer your question. Personally I'm interested in topics like technology (especially where it's being used to make people's lives better), pop culture (especially books, movies, actors), philosophy, tips on making money/side hustles.

There is nothing wrong with posting about them, but you might not get many replies if other people aren't interested in them.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

Submitting one topic a day? I never knew that. :o

I joined this forum because I was new to the online world and my friend told me that members here share tips on how to make money online.

I used to login and do 10 posts a day because it was easy for me to calculate how long it would take to earn $5 and ask Fergal for a payout. I was so happy to get paid. I had been at a lot of other sites and they didn't pay me!

As time passed, I found the discussion threads very interesting and educational.

Now I just sign in because I like it here. <3
It's a plus that I can also earn for my activity.

Yes, I am also here because I like it here. But, about a topic per day, you can even ask @OldGuy.

You don't have to, it was just suggested to create more discussion.

I post new topics when I think of something to post about, but I don't want to post every day just for the sake of posting, because quality is more important than quantity.

Yes, quality is important than quantity, but quite often, short posts can be quite interesting.

I have been the proponent for members to post at least one new topic each time you log in. It is not a site requirement.

The reason for this is the ongoing extreme shortage of new topics for all of us to work on. I have been monitoring the site statistics for many years. We used to have 300 or more topics listed under the new post link to choose from. It has rarely even been 200 topics in the last year. It has been faltering way below that in the most recent months. Even during the December contest when we received over 300 new topics in barely a month, it instantly dropped to 180 the day after the contest ended and has been much lower ever since. Despite 97 new topics that have been added since January 1, it has been hovering between 138 and 167 topics in all that time, and only 165 topics listed under the new post link right this minute.

Topics are only displayed for 7 days after the last posting activity and then drop off to the archives. They vanish faster than new topics are being added. Members can and do roam the archives to bring back topics of interest, but most go through the system with 5 or less replies and then vanish forever.

We need new topics every day to replace those that have gone through the system. The only sources for new topics are the active members themselves. There is no other source. Most members like to post content to existing topics, but many also never bother to contribute new topics. The only reason you have content to work on are the 27 members who have bothered to create new topics. With the ongoing shortage, it should be an obligation for every member to contribute new topics on a regular basis.

So no, it is not a site requirement to post new topics. However, it should be an obligation to do so for the good of all members. Be sure to at least thank those who have been providing new topics with a positive reputation point when it is deserved. Without them, you would not have any place to post your own replies.

I did not say that posting a new topic per day was a requirement. I meant like @OldGuysaid, a topic per day would be nice.

Just to clarify, when I posted this comment just yesterday, we had 165 topics listed under the new posts link. There have actually been 10 new topics introduced since then. As of this moment, there are now only 152 topics displayed. More topics have retired into the archives than new topics added in the latest 24 hours. That is why I keep asking WHERE ARE YOUR NEW TOPICS?

Sure, I don't have a problem with posts being short. It's more about the topic being interesting.
