Ilia Isorelys Paulino got cast as the evil Pirate Alvida in the live action adaptation of the Anime One Piece. The character is fat in the anime so her being a fat actress who can play scary big pirate lady, got the role. Here is the problem after the show got renewed for a 2nd season. In the Anime... The character was fat at first.




The character eventually have weightloss in the anime.

She do not want Alvida to get recast so she enrolled in a Balroom dancing school and danced her way to keep the role. She tries to find a weightloss program she will enjoy so she goes for dancing instead of gym.



She now secured the role for more seasons to come

Well done to her for doing what she wanted in order to maintain the role. There have also been examples of actors who put on or lost significant amounts of weight to play the different life stages of a character in a movie.

I am amazed at such dedications. We have few such stories in Bollywood too where actors have undergone huge transformation in a short time for the roles that they play on screen.
She shows a huge transformation in the before and after series. It's heartening to see artists putting all these honest efforts in their role. Kudos to them!

They will replace her if she didnt lose weight, Lucky for her Pandemic gave her enough time to lose weight. She have to audition for the role again

That is impressive. I would think it might be bad for her health to drop that much weight so suddenly though. Hopefully she has some good medical advice and people helping her keep an eye on that. Contestants on shows like The Biggest Loser who lost a lot of weight quickly for the show did not do well after it ended. Most of them put even more weight back on than before, because the extreme dieting and exercise altered their metabolism so they had to work even harder to keep their weight down.

Ah, that's much safer. Good for her.

You can get skin sagging even if it takes years though. A friend of mine lost a lot of weight (like 50kg) over several years through a lot of hard work (weight training and cardio) and she ended up with sagging skin. There is a solution though- she got surgery to remove the extra skin. They can do it in a way that hides the scars pretty well.

The Pandemic is a blessing in disguise for her since she manage to change her lifestyle. Also she tried to lose weight so she have stamina for fight scenes.

While loosing a healthy weight can be a good option if done with professional guidance, gaining a lot for a role can't be good for health. There are actors who have gained and lost for the same story in a drastic way in a very short time. For the same story, the character's transformation has to be shown. They actually risk their health. Loosing or gaining a lot in short time is not advised. They are done under professional guidance.

We have similar cases where the actors were so dedicated and they had transformation for a particular role. They could not work on other projects while working for one. If the movie is a hit, it would get the return of the effort and not being able to work on other projects.. but there are times when they fall flat on box office. That's unfortunate. Recently, Abhishek Bachchan gained a lot of weight for his role in I want to talk, based on real life. The movie didn't fare well on box office despite being a very good movie. Later it did well on Amazon Prime.

That is an amazing effort.
However at times, to lose or gain weight, folks have to do something that makes it difficult for them to live healthily and they might even fall ill.
