A Premium Perk: EFTA Boosts Indian Coffee Exports

Postby ptrikha21 » 04 Oct 2025, 18:05

The operationalization of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) pact grants a significant boost to Indian coffee exports. With EFTA eliminating import duty on all coffee products, Indian coffee makers gain favorable market access to the high-value markets of Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland. This tariff concession, part of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), enhances the competitiveness of premium Indian varieties like shade-grown, handpicked coffee, positioning them strongly against global rivals and potentially accelerating the recent growth in India's coffee exports

This news has given me great hope for Indian coffee farmers. The removal of import duties through the EFTA agreement is a great opportunity to access high-value markets like Switzerland and Norway. Indian high-quality coffee now has a better chance to compete internationally. This is a positive step for sustainable agriculture and international trade.

This is a critical time for coffee sector stakeholders to prepare well, improve product quality, and strengthen distribution. Close collaboration between farmers, exporters, and government will yield the best results.

Wow, good for India... I never knew the country produced coffee! I love coffee, so I'd love to taste Indian coffee. Also interesting to see how geopolitics continues to be reshaped, with Europe and China featuring in many trade deals.

Coffee Beans were imported into India a few centuries back from Ethiopia through Arab traders.
However, some areas especially in Southern Part of India have developed their own flavors of Coffee, a lot of which is exported as well.
Filter Coffee is particularly famous in the Southern parts.
However, in other parts, genuine Filter Coffee is tough to get.

So yes, if you get your hands on any "Indian Coffee", do share its reviews(unbiased).
I would relish that review !!
