ToTW Monetize YouTube channel

Postby billytsr » 04 Nov 2025, 13:28

I’m thinking about starting a YouTube channel focused on cooking. Do you think it’s a good way to earn money? Or do you have any other ideas in mind?

Starting a cooking channel is a very cool idea. People love to see food and learn recipes. It's like the saying goes, "A slow move never fails." If you stick to consistency and fresh content, you'll start getting views and subscribers, and that's where the money comes in. You can also consider TikTok or Instagram reels to increase your reach and capture a diverse audience. The key is to be creative and show your passion for food.

Yes or no.

The food niche is still a very good niche to get into. However, there are a lot of channels concentrating on it.

So, ask yourself -- in terms of food, what are you the most knowledgeable of? You want to niche-down and get known as the expert in that niche. A general cooking channel is too generic, and you'll be a needle in a haystack.

I recommend a 3-phased strategy:

Year One: Focus on making awesome videos (long-form, Shorts, live, podcasts, and posts - use all the features provided). Pump out valuable content because YouTube content is evergreen (maybe not Shorts) compatible.

Year Two: Focus on marketing channels. Newsletter, social media, Pinterest for sure (big food niche platform), paid acquisition (low risk), and collaborations.

Year Three: Profit. I recommend waiting to maximize profit during year three because you'll have content proof, social proof from your marketing effort, and by year 3, you'll be better known in your niche.

It takes work, hard work, but you can do it!

Multiple income streams will be your best route too. YPP ads, Patreon, Merch, Newsletter ads, affiliates, even making your own food products such as sauces or pots or whatever in relation to your niche.

Next year will be my 10th year of YouTube. It's brought me a second income. Life is easier because of it!

Okay, that's the best way to make a lot of money.

Start with YPP and Patreon and then set up an affiliate.

Just take your merch and even the sauce if you make food.

Just something about your niche that can sell.

Don't worry, you'll get it.

YouTube Partner Program is not the same as saying you have monetized your account, it is like a door and a room, if you want to start making money, you must first enter the program, it gives you permission to open advertising features and other things, without that it is like wandering outside the house without a key.

It is like the story of Theseus going through the labyrinth without Ariadne's thread, you would be lost inside without help. YPP is the thread that takes you out of the darkness and allows you to see the path to income. Once you enter, you can choose the advertising or membership path and that is where the money starts to flow like water flowing into a canal.
