Disney completely reboots Power Rangers.

Postby Netherrealmer » 18 Jan 2026, 17:08

One thing you need to know about Power Rangers is, originally, they get footages of the Japanese superhero show, Super Sentai. They remove the scenes where the superheroes do not wear their costumes and replace them with American or Australian actors. They just recycle a Japanese superhero show. That has been the way it is for decades. Although at the beginning, they use American actors, eventually they resort to Australian and New Zealand actors because they're cheaper. But now, they will stop using Japanese footages because Super Sentai already ended. They are not going to use Super Sentai footages anymore because Super Sentai is over. After 50 years, Super Sentai ended in Japan. So, from now on, Power Rangers will be 100% American-made. American directors, and they will use actors from America and Canada instead of cheaper Australian actors. This will be a reboot of the original season of Power Rangers that is based from the 23rd season of Super Sentai, and they will use actors teen disney actors with names now instead of unknown actors.

Priyanka Chopra is cast to play the villain, Rita Repulsa. And this new version is not limited, unlike the old version from the 90s, it's not going to be campy or kid, it's gonna be more serious because they want to attract teens and adults as well. It's supposed to be darker and more edgy.

Rita Repulsa was originally played by Japanese actress Machiko Soga, then she was replaced by Filipino actress Carla Perez, then in a failed 2017 movie adaptation, she was played by Elizabeth Banks.

Traditionally, most Super Sentai teams have four males and one female, or three males, two females. Usually, when they were transported to Power Rangers, if the yellow Ranger is male, they turned him into a girl so that they will have two girls. It will not happen anymore because it's now 100% American casted. No more recycled footages from Japan. It will be 100% Disney-made.

I hope they don't ruin it. While the last few seasons have been inconsistent, they can still surprise us and have a good season, but I don't know what it is about Disney that in recent years they've only managed to ruin everything.

What I know, this is gonna be the most expensive version of Power Rangers because they will not use Super Sentai footages anymore because Super Sentai already ended in Japan. Japan created a new superhero franchise titled Code Red and it's gonna replace Super Sentai. So Disney wants to continue Power Rangers, but you cannot make Power Rangers without Super Sentai. So this Super Sentai version free by Disney will be 100% American-made. Also, they managed to, you know, convince Priyanka Chopra to play a villain role.

Your analysis of how Power Rangers is being made using footage from Super Sentai is absolutely correct and a unique process in the film world. there is a small important adjustment: the Super Sentai series is still running in Japan and has not reached its end. with over 45 seasons now.

Super Sentai already ended, thats why new Power Rangers will be 100% American made. Super Sentai is replaced by Project Red and Project Red wont have American licensing.
This is Project red and it wont become a Power Rangers season because its not Sentai.

Disney Power rangers wont use Sentai footages anymore. It is 100 percent American made and filmed at London

Power Rangers will now be produced in the United States from start to finish. Project Red replaces Super Sentai but does not have a licensing deal there. This means a big change for these beloved shows from now on.

Code Red is created because they don't want connections with Power Rangers anymore. They're tired of their footage being reused with Power Rangers.

In the context of the franchise's history, Toei (which produces Super Sentai) often has footage used by Saban/Hasbro for Power Rangers. Sometimes, Japanese producers get tired of seeing their work cut up and reused without the original context, and so try to create a new brand or independent project.

So the move to create "Code Red" is a sign of wanting to break away from the reuse of footage and show a different identity. It's an example of the tension between creative ownership and international adaptation. Fans often interpret such a move as a statement of separation from Power Rangers, to show that they want to stand on their own without relying on the American franchise.

I think Power Rangers also stopped Super Sentai from being exported from foreign countries. For example, Super Sentai used to have a market in Latin America market, Europe, Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, but when America created Power Rangers, Super Sentai became stuck in Japan because people would rather see the Power Rangers, which is a recycled footage of Super Sentai, much better. And, you know, with Korean content becoming mainstream, I think Japan wants a piece of the pie. Code Red can be streamed on streaming services because there's no more connection with Power Rangers.
