A Job Opportunity?

Postby Spontaneo » 18 Jan 2026, 13:27

@Fergal told myself to create a post about this. So, here I go.

I am looking for a work-from-home job. I want something that I can do while staying with WeekendNotes. WN has kept myself for years. I do not want to lose them.

Next, I would like something in the writing field. However, I am open to anything out of my comfort zone.

Following, I do stink at sales.

A pay increase would be nice.

Finally, I thank you in advance for any suggestions! ;) ;)

teaching english to Japanese kids, pays a lot of money, The script is right in your front and they will give you training. It pays highly to Americans.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. When I was in elementary, Jr. high and high school, I knew proper English. Once I got to university, my English went bye-bye. All of the students used slang.

So, I guess that you can say that I really only know conversational English.

That's a very common situation on the street! When you enter university, formal language is often put aside to make way for slang that helps you fit in with the environment and the native speakers. College is a place of rapid change, and using that seasonal language makes you seem "in" the system, but it can cause your classroom English to start to get rusty.

Don't worry, your proper language skills are not lost, you just slept. When you enter a work environment or start writing reports in the native language, you will find that your mind quickly regains your old English. It's like riding a bicycle—even if you sit for years without touching it, if you just ride, things will straighten out.

Doesn't this require some knowledge about Japanese language so that where the kid gets lost you can help out?

Teaching English to Japanese children is often done using ready-made texts and previous training, so you don't need to know a high level of Japanese to get started. Many employers want teachers to speak English fluently and confidently, so that children can hear and get used to the language.

However, knowing the basics of Japanese can be very helpful when a child is struggling to understand or needs immediate help. This makes communication easier and shows respect for their culture. Companies offering these positions usually provide training on how to deal with classroom challenges, so you can start without much Japanese knowledge and learn gradually.

You're in a very privileged position because most remote work is geared towards Americans! Just go and scour the many job boards out there. I see so many jobs I could do but aren't able to apply for because I'm not in the US. I don't know what your experience/qualifications/interests are but here are a few sites you can check out:

- Working Nomads
- Remotely
- We work remotely
- No desk
- Amazon/ Apple jobs
- Remote

There are countless more out there. All the best!

I have searched remote non-stop. I like Indeed.com and workathomewoman.com.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, the job market is pretty bad right now and remote jobs are extremely hard to come by. When there's one available, there will literally be thousands of people fighting for it. So it's unlikely that you'll find a remote job in the field you want, with the pay you want.

You can try freelancing though. It will not be stable income and you probably won't get paid a lot, but it's something to keep you busy while you look for a job you like. Try jobs like training AI, or user-based website testing.

If you really going to do the job, I think it requires knowledge to be able to teach those japanese kids. But I really suggest you do something like content writing or online tutoring.

Technical Writing means describe a code what it is about and get rewarded.

You do know you can teach conversational English? No grammar, no rules. I have a couple of students who INSIST on just talking and being corrected where they go wrong. That's all they want from me.
