Postby ptrikha21 » 18 Jan 2026, 14:11

Grasim Industries company - Birla Opus Paints has got a new CEO.
He is Sachin Sahay, who has transitioned from ITC Limited. His post in ITC was of Executive Vice President of Sales.
He has over 30 years of leadership experience, particularly in scaling FMCG channels and driving digital transformation.
Sahay succeeds Rakshit Hargave, who resigned in late 2025.
This strategic appointment aims to bolster Birla Opus’s aggressive market share pursuit against established industry leaders.

He had been primarily into Sales and Marketing so the appointment looks apt.
In Commercial Paints business, They have good competition from Asian Paints and Nerolac.

big step for Grasim Industries in the local market. The appointment of Sachin Sahay as the new CEO of Birla Opus Paints, effective February 16, 2026, is a major boost to their competitiveness against veterans like Asian Paints.

Sahay is no stranger to this business game; he comes from ITC Limited, where he spent over three decades (23 years with ITC alone) building sales and distribution systems across the country. At ITC, he was instrumental in the company's transformation into an FMCG giant and even helped launch the popular eChoupal rural project.

Good for the new appointee. Yes, I can sniff money coming to the new CEO pockets. Landing a new job is a dream come true especially if it pays well.

Sahay joins Birla Opus from ITC Limited, where he was Executive Vice President of Sales. He has over 20 years of experience in sales and marketing, which seems to align with Grasim's strategy to expand its paints business and compete in a highly competitive market.

Often the Big guns - CEOs, MDs and other in Top Management position take a big cut.
Sometimes it is too big.
It can be 10 to 15 times of the average employee salary in such companies but in their defense, companies say that they need the expertise even if it has bigger costs.

I'm sick used to bosses getting a lot of kickbacks. They say they want expertise, but I don't think that fifteen salaries more than others make sense.

Indeed, there should be a limit or some kind of a moderation.
Else it can be demoralizing for the average employees.

Its unsettling that, while they do only modest work, CEOs earn thousands times more than regular employees.
If only governments, the well-meaning ones, had a way of reigning in on executive compensation packages.
