There is a Eurovision Asia now.

Postby Netherrealmer » 01 Apr 2026, 05:32

I don't know why they didn't go for the name Asia Vision, but they decided to go with the name Eurovision Asia. Eurovision is one of the biggest songwriting contests in the world, but it's only for European countries and countries that are members of the European Broadcast Union. And now, after the next Eurovision, which is in May, in September, Eurovision Asia will debut. The original Eurovision currently have 30+ countries joining, so they have two semifinals and a grand finals. But because the Eurovision Asia only have 12 countries joining, it will have a single Grand Finals and will use the 1960s format.

Two years ago, there was an attempt for an American Eurovision, and they call it American Song Festival, but it failed because 50 states plus like five territories is way too much for the audience to watch. But I think that Eurovision Asia will be much more watchable because it's just 12 countries.

🎤 Confirmed participating countries
🇰🇷 South Korea
🇹🇭 Thailand (host country)
🇵🇭 Philippines
🇻🇳 Vietnam
🇲🇾 Malaysia
🇰🇭 Cambodia
🇱🇦 Laos
🇧🇩 Bangladesh
🇳🇵 Nepal
🇧🇹 Bhutan

I guessed they used Eurovision cause it's still the same company? And they wanted consistency in their brand name.

Asians are very excited about this because Eurovision is a big deal, even though it's not mainstream in, let's say, America, because these following singers got their careers out from Eurovision: Olivia Newton-John, Mary Hopkins, ABBA, Celine Dion, Blue,Bonnie Tyler,Duncan Lawrence, Maneskin, and many more. A lot of international singers got their careers launched by Eurovision.

That sounds interesting!
I wonder why they didn't opt for India.
Was there any competing company that prevailed for the Indian market?

They have their own reason for that.

I think india didn't join this year because they want to observe. That's\nJust my theory. Also, the complete list of countries is not yet complete at this moment.Only 10 countries are announced, but there could be more, but it won't have the current format of europe because they're won't be semifinals.

Yeah, that's interesting that they kept the name Eurovision, possibly because of copyright laws. I just hope the Asian one won't lean too much on politics and geopolitics.

When the UK pulled the Brexit stunt, Europeans felt they were being arrogant and punished the country by giving it the proverbial nil point across most countries  For a while, the UK used to bring up the rear year in year out. I haven't watched it for a while so I don't know if the sitution's changed. It's a rubbish competition that has ZERO to do with musical talent. My husband and I used to watch it for a laugh, always accurately predicting how each country would vote

Oh wow, that's amazing! Do you know which African countries are involved, or is it just those that are members of the European Broadcast Union? That seems to be a huge thing when it comes to membership

Indicates lack of originality.

Originally, there's going to be an event titled Asia Vision. It has the permission of Eurovision, and it was going to be run by Asian Broadcasting Union, but it keeps getting canceled. And to make it worse, they did make a song festival, but it's not competitive. There's no contest. People just sing. No winner, no loser. So it's flop. So Eurovision decided to make their own version instead of making a separate Asia-run contest. So Eurovision used the name Eurovision Asia because, you know, America tried to make their own Eurovision called American Song Contest, and it flopped. So Eurovision decided to put the Eurovision name on the Asian version, so it will have some kind of credibility to be watched. The thing that makes me wonder is, you know, Eurovision decided to keep the classic rule that only six people are allowed to be on the stage, but the thing is, a lot of the boy bands and girl bands in Asia usually have 7 up to 48 members. So does it mean a lot of members will stay at home and won't be able to perform on stage?
