The song Yesterday originally had a different lyric.

Postby Netherrealmer » 04 Feb 2026, 20:38

Yesterday by The Beatles is one of the greatest songs of all time. And one of the most fascinating things is its melody came from a dream of Paul McCartney. And after he wake up with that melody on his head, he tried to play it with an instrument and tried to ask producers if they heard this song before. Because the song sounds so good, he have a fear that he might accidentally plagiarize someone else's song. Because the song sounds so good. So because he doesn't have the right lyrics yet, he created a placeholder lyric while he's still trying to write the perfect lyrics for this melody. because the melody is so beautiful and he wants to have the perfect lyrics for a perfect song. This is the version that we grow up with.

for the version that we end up with, you know, the one that became a very iconic song, though, he created a placeholder version while he's finding the right lyrics for the song. The only reason why he made this placeholder version is so he will not forget the melody.

This is the placeholder version

Scrambled eggs
Oh my baby how I love your legs
Not as much as I love scrambled eggs
Oh we should eat some scrambled eggs

Waffle fries
Oh my darling how I love your thighs
Not as much as I love waffle fries
Oh have you tried the waffle fries

They are
So damn good that they should be illegal
They're like
Regular fries but they're shaped like a waffle

Chicken wings...
"Chicken wings? No, no, no... Vegetarian, no chicken wings."
"Oh, I forgot, it was actually..."
Tofu wings
Oh my baby when I hear you sing
All I think about is tofu wings
Oh did you bring the tofu wings

There's a
Place I know where I go for kick-ass wings
We could
Even get a side of onion rings

Scrambled eggs
Oh my baby how I love your legs
Not as much as I love scrambled eggs
Oh let's go get some scrambled eggs

The placeholder version is hilarious, I don't think it would have the success of the version we know and love :)

I do love the song Yesterday, and the Yesterday movie that is based on the song is great - well worth a watch.

Dance is a complete disaster. Paul woke up with that melody in his head and thought it was someone else's. He played it until he wrote the lines of the egg. It is a miracle that has brought great respect all over the world today.

The Beatles' "Yesterday" originally featured placeholder lyrics while Paul McCartney crafted the melody. The final lyrics were later refined, becoming one of the most covered songs in music history, celebrated for its simple yet emotional expression of loss

So that movie, I watched that. It's about a guy who got transported into a dimension where the Beatles do not exist. So he take advantage of it and plagiarize every song of Beatles and he became a big star because of it.

Yes, and here are some details I remember from the movie. Aside from Beatles not existing, he gets to meet John Lennon, and John Lennon didn't die. I guess because being part of Beatles is the reason why he got assassinated or leaving Beatles. And also, Harry Potter doesn't exist on that universe. That's why he probably decided to plagiarize Beatles because Harry Potter is harder to plagiarize.
