Hard to say. In a way, getting into a self-driving car can be safer than getting into a random taxi, especially for women (and especially if they live in an area that's not safe). Many countries like China already have self-driving taxis and they seem to be a success.
On the other hand, if self-driving cars are not carefully programmed and mapped, it can cause an issue. There's always some issues with Waymo in San Francisco. Either they're stuck and blocking traffic, or they're being broken into.
So I guess it really dependents on different factors. I would trust and maybe even prefer a self-driving car, if it's been mapped and tested for safety.
