Do You Practice Moderation?

Postby Spontaneo » 06 May 2026, 21:17

Do you consume food and drink in moderation no matter difficult?

I have been doing good.

For example:

My dentist and my family physician allow myself sweet tea in moderation. About 2 to 3 glasses each day is what I allow myself.

Instead of sugar and cream in my coffee and iced coffee, I permit myself honey and ground cinnamon with 2 packets of artificial sweetener.

Food-wise, I just consume what I want, even about 1 or 2 ounces of potato chips.

I lost 3 more pounds this month!

I think moderation is much easier to follow long-term than cutting out everything completely. It’s nice that your doctors allow you to still enjoy some of your favourite foods and drinks while staying careful.

I had a tuna pouch that I had been saving for a bad day. I have been attempting to reduce a bunch of tuna because of mercury poisoning.

Then what happened? I wanted to have a zillion tuna sandwiches and prepare a big batch of tuna salad!

So, instead, I distracted my mind and had some lentil and then had some yellow rice.

Should I just get over this nonsense and prepare some tuna salad, and consume in moderation?

Yes, I do try to keep everything to a minimum, especially naughty food that I love so much. That's the sweet stuff that's bad for us like chocolate and cakes. I never used to like them because I was more about savoury food. So I don't know if that's what happens the older we get  But yes, I try to balance everything I eat even though sometimes it's a losing battle

Exactly, cutting off completely is extremely hard, that's why most people can't continue after awhile.

Yeah, moderation feels more natural because you can still enjoy your favourite foods while trying to stay healthy.

As I am a sandwich girl, the first thing that I get criticized for is the amount of bread that I consume. Sandwiches are the one splurge that I allow myself. Earlier I had a bologna with yellow mustard sandwich and a tuna salad sandwich. Later on I am having a chicken salad sandwich and some yellow rice. For dinner? I am having air fryer waffle fries! I have been saving the waffle fries for a bad day. My roommate cussed at myself and she raised her voice today.

When I was younger, people said that I didn't consume enough food. Now I want food? I consume too much bread?

Don't get myself wrong. My loved ones fed myself. I just counted calories as had wanted to be a skinny girl.

The important thing is that you're eating well and not being too strict with yourself anymore.

I choose smaller plate and lower how much beer I drink. This way in long term I lost over 6kg. Moderation with best success.

Good, you've lost 6kg. Moderation is often a very successful way to make lasting changes.

In general, yeah. I don't drink alcohol to excess (just one or two nights a week) and I don't eat large meals. I have some form of little treat, like chocolate, most days.

About treats, as for chocolate, yesterday my roommate wanted to give myself a Hostess Suzy Q. I knew better but accepted the treat. I am a choco-hol-ic. I did forget to log in my food diary.

Today, a friend offered myself a mini Reese's chocolate peanut butter! I just said no. ;) ;)
