Two contradicting historical movies....

Postby Netherrealmer » 04 Oct 2018, 20:15

In the Elizabeth movie starring Kate Blanchet, Mary Queen of Scots is the treasonable one. She is the one who is evil while Elizabeth is this great Queen.

In the Mary Queen of Scots, movie, It is Mary who is the kind Queen and rightful heiress of the Throne while Elizabeth is the evil queen.

2 Historical movies about rival cousins who are competing for a throne. One Portrays Mary as the villain, the other portray Elizabeth is the villain.

Which movie is more accurate?

To answer your question you would have to travel to that time, the reality is that no one knows, people only know what was written in that time, and like everything that is written it can be manipulated according to the desires of who owns the power. Most of the History that was taught to us is not accurate, and sometimes it is even used to cause certain feelings and reactions in the viewers, like many things in the world that we see.

Perhaps the two of them were villains ;) Who knows?
History has so many bias and we never know the real truth, only what someone told or wrote. Normally, in that time, the stories "traveled" through people and people, like we know, never talk the truth, talk their own truth (or what they interpreted about the story).
Even today, when we want to know something about one person, what we find about that person in the internet is the really truth? We never know... ;)

I had never heard about this movies... I like historical movies. I will certainty see them :)

Apparently the Scots are more favoring the Mary Queen of Scots movie.

I find the Mary Queen of Scots movie inaccurate though for having Asian and Black noblemen and noble women.

Bess of Hardwick is a White redhead an she is played by Gemma Chan. I am all for diversity but this is a historical movie and Asian people are not in England during those times.

The films Elizabeth (1998) and Mary Queen of Scots (2018) tell the story of two queens who were cousins and royal rivals, but each takes a different perspective. In Elizabeth, Mary Queen of Scots is portrayed as a traitor and a threat to the reign of Elizabeth I. The film emphasizes Elizabeth’s achievements and the challenges she faced, but it also mixes history and fiction.

On the other hand, Mary Queen of Scots portrays Mary as a compassionate queen with the right to inherit the throne of England. Elizabeth is portrayed as jealous and opposed to Mary’s inheritance. While this film more closely reflects the political and religious realities of the time, there are still fictional events such as the meeting between Mary and Elizabeth—which did not occur historically.

So, the short answer is that both films are realistic and creative, but Mary Queen of Scots tends to be closer to actual history. However, it is important to view these films as artistic interpretations and not as complete history lessons.
