South Korean animated movies for kids are traumatizing

Postby Netherrealmer » 02 May 2023, 08:18

One thing I learned about South Koreans, They do not want to censor children from seeing dark realities. Animated movies from South Korea favors sad endings because they want kids to be ready for the harsh realities of life. They want South Korean kids to be ready for the worst. American children's movies are given happy whimsical endings. Though dark Anime exist in Japan, most children's Japanese movies favors Happy endings.

South Korea wants children to face the truth.

Here are some South Korean Animated movies that gives horror movies a run for their money.

Padak Swimming to the sea

This movie is about a female Mackerel who got caught and be sold to an Aquarium Sushi house. She met some Farm raised fish and she told them stories about the ocean, She wants to convince them to escape instead of accepting their fate. It has similarities for Finding Nemo but has a traumatizing ending. it felt like a horror movie created by Vegans.

This is her ending, But she inspired the villain fish of the story to escape and live freedom for her.

Leafy a Hen into the wild

Leafy is a hen who always dream about being a mother but her dream wont come true because she is a layer hen in an egg farm and there are no roosters around.
Image

She lost consciousness from the stress of living in a cage, so the farmer thought she is dead and threw her away in a forest. Int he forest she met a wild duck couple and they became her close friends. The ducks got killed by a Weasel but their egg survived. Leafy sits on that egg until its hatched and became the adoptive mother of a duckling.

She raised the duckling like her own son, he even rebelled on her at one point. in the end she saw a group of flying wild ducks and she told her adopted son to come with them. Since she cannot fly, she was left alone in that forest. She saw the angry weasel who tried to killed her friends. She found out that weasel is a mother and she hunts so she can produce milk for her babies.

This is the ending:

These South Korean children movies will traumatize American children.

That's interesting, most children's movies in the West, such as the Disney movies do have very happy endings. As an adult watching the moving it is pretty easy to know how they are going to end. I wonder at what age is it appropriate for children to watch movies with those sad endings.

Part of me feels that children are not children for very long, let them have their fun movies when they are young because they will learn about the harsh realities of life soon enough. Another part of me feels that it is good to let them see such things in movies so that they are more emotionally prepared for hardship when it does come and so that they have a more realistic understanding of life. A lot of it probably does come down to age, those sad endings may be more suitable for say 8 year olds than 5 year olds.

I don't want my children, nieces, or nephews to experience the harsh realities of life at such a young age.

I think it may hamper their mental growth. Anyway, children learn in their own way.

Can we say shows will cause more trauma and stress than violent video games like Call of Duty or GTA? Most people blame videos games for problems but rare who comment afffect series on kids.

It is norm in South Korea because they want their kids to be mature.

Stories are good, K dramas are working fine., now cartoons too? But kids should also be told about morals in life, not just harshness.

Those Korean series are always on edge. Or they are to sad or two violent or two much sex related. They don't have something in middle.

I don't support their notion of sad endings movies as they want kids to be ready for the harsh realities of life. Kids are too young for this it might affect their mental health

Harsh parenting is part of Korean Culture, they think making you ready for the hard times will make you more successful.

Childhood is our happiest time, we should dream and believe in happy endings. I don't agree with these kinds of movies, it's too cruel for a child to understand. We all have time to deal with the reality of life and that time is certainly not the time of childhood.

In some cases this good approach. In my country system have much different approach - protect kids in every situation. Now we have kids who don't know anything about responsabilty, do what ever they want. Dad slap his 15 year old daughter since he end up in police in front of police officers. He end up right away in police for child molesting.
