How about adding a new contest where you earn an entry in the contest with the introduction of a new topic and a monthly drawing for the winner once a month?

One of the biggest issues I have been seeing is the incredible shortage of new topics. A little more than a third of all who log in each day look around, see nothing new of interest and leave without posting anything at all. I've noticed an astonishing number of them are not coming back. Adding a significant volume of new topics every single day should dramatically give everyone something new to discuss each time they log in and a reason to come back for more. Adding at least one new topic every day should be an obligatory part of site participation for everyone. Seems an incentive to do so could make a difference.

The current default order of topics listed under the "New Posts" link is based on the time and date of the latest posts. A lot of members have stated a reason they hesitate to post new topics is that their new topics are rapidly pushed out of view by members who keep bringing back very old topics.

How about the option to switch the sort order to give new topics a chance and encourage members to add them.

Perhaps the default can remain as it is, but if they click on the "Topics" heading, it would sort the display by the latest new topics as they are added? That would give all the newest topics a chance to be viewed and answered before they get pushed out of view. You could always click on the "Last Post" heading to go back to the default order.

Thanks for your suggestion OldGuy. I do like the idea and would be happy to implement it. I'm not sure if our forum software allows a way to do that at the moment, but will see if it is something we can do in the future.

Are you staying on phpBB or is the road open for a more modern software such as XenForo?

In desktop version, you have space in horizontal menu (black color marked). Can you add there link to new topics? It don't have to be at the end (red color marked).

It occurs to me as I continue monitoring the newest topics for the new topics contest that the simplest idea would be to REPLACE the “Unanswered Posts” link with a “Newest Topics” link.

Yes, there are a lot of topics that come and go without ever getting any replies, but as they age, the list becomes pretty worthless by the time you get to the end of the first page.

There are a lot of topics that come and go without any replies, but there are even more with 1, 2 or 3 replies that just get lost in the mix. If the list was updated with each new topic at the top of the list and ages as it goes down the page with each NEW topic, we could all still see the very latest new topics right from the start and they would not be buried within the first 24 hours. The older “New Topics” would still be visible but would finally expire from the front page after a much greater chance of being seen and answered before that happens. Even such a list would be pretty worthless by the time they get shoved off to page 2 but it would be much more valuable if the front page included all the newest topics as they are current.

At any rate, it is now very obvious we need a “Newest Topics” list to catch all these new topics before they are shoved off the “New Post” link before they even get a chance. I realize the same idea is now repeated, but after viewing what happens to new topics as they come in, I see a much greater urgency to get it done.

If such a link were available, I would even go to that page first before even bothering with the latest posts under the New Posts link

What i have discovered is that something of value targetted to the right audience will surel give the expected results.What we need is to go on the advertising campaign to recruit as many new members as possible.We can target most earning sites that have low budgets for advertizing.
