Except for the body type, Barbie has tried to be diverse and inclusive in many possible ways in the past too. I wish that they could be a bit flexible with the body type.
There is one more type type 1.5 that is insulin dependent. I have type 1.5. We have LADA and MODY in type 1.5.
I have LADA Diabetes.

This'll help in making it easier for kids to understand and support their friends with diabetes.

It's nice that they're being inclusive. Good for children with diabetes to feel represented and see a doll that's like them.

The doll could also be someone with Type 2 since they would look the same. Not everybody with type 2 diabetes is fat. Most of them aren't as skinny as a Barbie of course because she's not really the shape of an actual human (those feet for one thing!), but that doesn't matter.

BTW besides diet there are other risk factors for Type 2 diabetes including stress, side effects of medication and child abuse so it's probably best to avoid being judgy about it.

This new Barbie from Mattel is a great step towards educating children about diabetes, especially type 1. It helps children and parents understand that this disease can be managed peacefully and happily. It also gives children living with diabetes a realistic representation in their play.

There are three types of diabetes. Type 1 begins in childhood and requires daily insulin injections. Type 2 often occurs in adults, especially those who are overweight or have a sedentary lifestyle. Type 3 is only temporary in pregnant women and goes away after giving birth.

It is important to understand that diabetes is not a punishment but a manageable health condition. Type 2 can be reduced by making lifestyle changes, but it is not easy to say that it is completely curable. Type 1 is incurable, but people can live a completely normal life.
