Postby kat82 » 30 May 2025, 12:25

I know many of you are used to Hollywood, Nollywood, etc according to the movies you have watched. How about Ugawood? Ever heard of it?

What are those? Ugandan movies? I don't know why many movie industries loves putting, imitating Hollywood and making a pun name to their movie industry. Like you know, there's Wakaliwood, Wollywood, Dollywood, Bollywood, and other kinds of wood. Meanwhile, they can have a more original name like, you know, Korean pop culture is called Hallyu.

Ugawood is for Uganda just like how Hollywood is for the US of not mistaken, similarly to how Nollywood represents the Nigerian movie industry.

Ugawood is a movie industry from Uganda and many people are still not used to hearing its name but it is like Hollywood or Nollywood its vibe is local but the stories are authentic and carry the culture of Uganda directors and actors are trying to show their creativity on screen and fans are starting to appreciate that movement so it is something very fresh for East Africa and it is growing every year and bringing new exposure

Oh wow, ok.... I'd never heard of Ugawood! I'd also like a recommendation so I can check the movies out. I'm always on the lookout for new content, as long as it's good I'm there <3
