What do you think of Lara Croft's new design?

Postby Netherrealmer » 04 Jan 2026, 18:22

After another reboot, Lara Croft is redesigned again, and there's a new era of Lara Croft right now. But before we go to her new version, let's talk about her past versions.

Classic

Image

Classic Lara is the PS1 era of Lara Croft. Most people with PlayStation 1 probably know this version because she is the original first version of Lara. This Lara Croft is an old money, high-res, and an archaeologist as well. Because she's so rich, she became so bored that she does a lot of tomb raiding to feed her hunger for adventure. This Lara, if I remember, is much more arrogant and she's probably on her 30s. And a weird trivia, her boobs are fake. She have silicone implants.

Legends Lara

Legends Lara is the PS2 era of Lara Croft. She's supposed to be more human and relatable. And just like the original, she had hunger for adventure. She's still cocky, but she had more empathy.

Survivor Lara

Image

Survivor Lara is the PS3 to PS4 version of Lara Croft. She is the most innocent version of Lara Croft and the most heroic. And she's supposed to be the youngest. Unlike the previous Laras, she is much more innocent, much more friendlier, and she's very hesitant when it comes to killing people. She actually cried the first time she killed a person, even though that person is basically trying to murder her. Because she's supposed to be younger and more innocent, she is less sexier than the most Lara we know.

Merged Lara

Now we have the merged Lara. Merged Lara is supposed to be on her late 30s and early 40s. She is sexy again. She is arrogant again. But she has the same experience as Survivor Lara. Many people think that she is the combination of Classic Lara and Survivor Lara. We don't know much about her, but she have two upcoming games in 2027 and 2028. She is the comeback of the Lara Croft hero, but once again, she's finally sexy again. Supposed to be the most powerful version of Lara Croft because she already killed not just monsters but also gods and demons.

Yep. The new Lara Croft has arrived in a completely different form, with a modern look and a more exciting story. Fans I bet are waiting to see how this new era will change the gameplay of this now world-famous game.

You know what? I kind of like Survivor Lara during her time, but eventually I get so sick of her crying and, you know, having trauma after trauma. So it's nice that, you know, Lara is not young and innocent again.

Yea. The old Lara Croft was a threat, but the constant whining and constant failures are killing me. It's tiring to see the main character go through endless pain instead of stepping up and becoming a better part of the team.

Lara Croft's new design is causing a stir, as she is depicted as 40 years old, single, and with a more basic appearance compared to the hyper-stylized versions of the past. The change is intended to portray her as a mature, experienced adventurer rather than an action-fantasy icon.

Fans are divided: some appreciate the realism and character depth. others miss the youthful, exaggerated design that defined previous Tomb Raider games. It's part of a broader trend in games toward characters who age and evolve, rather than being frozen in time.

I mean, a lot of iconic video game characters age now. Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter are now 60 and 58. Most of the main characters of Resident Evil are now on their 50s. That's why they created a new protagonist. Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid is basically an elderly man now. In the case of Pokemon, they refused to age Ash, so they just ended his story and create a new protagonist rather than aging him.

It's interesting to see how the portrayal of video game characters has changed over the years. Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter are now thought to be in their late fifties and early sixties. This creates a sense of time passing and fans get to see their heroes grow up with them. It's an example of how big franchises can develop stories and portray characters in a way that feels more authentic rather than remaining forever young. It makes nostalgia feel special to players who grew up playing since the early days.

Anyone here who have eyes? Because, you know, the only reply I get is from an AI user. Instead of using their eyes to react about the new design, I was given an article written by AI.

Makes a lot of sense. You know. For continuity's sake.
