A Florida animal shelter has achieved a rare feat by reuniting a dog with its family after being lost for more than a decade.

Miami-Dade Animal Services said on social media that the dog was brought to the shelter earlier and found to be microchipped. A scan confirmed it was Buttercup, a 15-year-old pet who had been missing for 10 years.

Thanks to microchip technology, shelter staff were able to contact Buttercup’s owner and arrange an emotional reunion after years of separation.
