Razorpay, a well known Fintech Company has significantly expanded into agentic payment ecosystem through a series of high-profile collaborations with global AI leaders and national infrastructure providers.

At the recent India AI Impact Summit 2026, the fintech major announced a landmark partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to integrate agentic payments into Anthropic’s Claude.

This would enable users to complete transactions on platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, and Zepto directly within a chat interface, utilizing UPI Reserve Pay for secure, pre-authorized spending.

UPI or Unified Payments Interface is an Indian home grown Payment Interface that works through scanners (mostly mobile apps) for digital payments and has reached a big usage in India but has been getting foothold abroad like UAE through Government to Government pacts.

Beyond Anthropic, Razorpay has formed strategic alliances with OpenAI to bring similar capabilities to ChatGPT and partnered with superU AI to launch real-time voice-activated payments. The company is also collaborating with the software creation platform Replit, allowing AI developers to embed India-ready payment stacks into their products from day one.

In this way, Razorpay would expand its foothold in the evolving AI based Fintech options.
Question for me: Would such payments be as secure as those through normal Apps or sites?

Hopefully this is good news for users and businesses and it will reduce the costs associated with payments processing. Hopefully it won't result in people being locked out of being able to make payments, due to decisions made by AI.

I think one needs to actually try and see how it goes.
Personally I feel there could be some Hits and Misses but so far I have not seen much reports on "actual usage".

I have seen agentic payments enter the game. Security is at the level of regular apps. But there are still challenges of compliance and fraud prevention. Fintechs must build strong protocols and integrate well with payment infrastructure to protect users and transactions.

Currently, these systems use AI agents to perform authorization and execution directly. So the risk is that standards are not consistent. But providers are working to write new rules and strengthen trust.

Hacking risks and confidential knowledge like Card details getting exposed are the big risks.
Let us see how the companies address this.

Yes. Relevant firms must put in place stringent measures to protect users from hacking that could expose card details to criminals.
