India has achieved a historic milestone in the dairy sector as four home-grown artisanal cheeses secured top honors at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026.
Leading the charge, Mumbai-based Eleftheria’s "Gulmarg," a Brie-style cheese, won the prestigious Super Gold, marking India's arrival on the global gourmet map.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged this feat, praising the craftsmanship behind these varieties. Beyond the global stage, India boasts a rich portfolio including Ladakh’s "Churpi" and Bengal’s "Bandel."
While artisanal prices range from ₹400 to ₹1,200, they remain competitive against premium European imports.
This victory proves that Indian cheesemakers can produce world-class products with impeccable precision.
