Everyone wants to do something they like as a business. The thing is that not everything that we like can be turned into business. For example, some of the people like doing the carpentry work. However you can do business with carpentry, you can't be rich. It takes a lot of hard work for any business to succeed. So passion does not always make you money. However there are some people who have made money with passion.
ZenPencil
This site is basically a comic hosting site. The owner of the site is artist. He makes comics on many topics. Most of the topics are very inspiring. And he makes money selling the merchandise such as coffee mug, posters, pencils, signed books etc. And though this may not makes him rich. He's happy and doing fine. So it all comes down to people appreciating you. You can't get into art easily and make that much money.
What I learned
Artists such as zenpencils and others make some good money from sketches and animation. But is it easy? Any type of art and craft is time consuming. You can't make money by reducing this time. Because such time can't easily be traded against quality. Most of the good things take time. And for this reason such thing can't be a good business for everybody. Sure you can give this one a good try.
Etsy
Many people who are into crafting, crochets and other arts are using the etsy. They make some products and sell the stuff through etsy. Though it is not going to be a big money maker. It can keep the people alive even with small number of items. There are some items that get sold based on quality. And if you know how to tap into such niche then that can be one good market to get into.
What I have learned from Etsy Business Model
I personally can't do craft and other stuff. It can be tiresome for such process. It's not like art and sketch. But here tangible physical products are created. And it takes time to make money off such products. You have to be very good with your content and art. If you are not good with your product, there goes the sale away from you.
Patreon
Finally this is one site which can be useful for those who are into activity which can be monetized and made money with that way. Patreon can pay some good sum of money. People here are generous and they donate. I would say this can be dangerous way of making money. Because other than US and Canada, there are not many countries that are into donating the money for artists and the craft people.
It's not easy to make money off the passion based business. You have to work hard. And working hard requires a lot of time. And your success goes ahead that way. I'd say you should focus on creating good content and then think of monetizing.
