5 Simple Ways to save more Money

Postby thisnthat » 22 Aug 2017, 20:33

If a penny saved is a penny earned then all those dollars you’re about to save will really add up! Saving money doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to give up everything you like. While a few cuts may be in order, there are certainly some other simple ways to keep more money in your wallet.

Give some of these a try:

Ask Away

Ask your credit card company to lower your interest rate. While you do want to ask nicely, you can also be firm. There is a ton of competition these days, so they really don’t want to lose you if you’re a good customer. If you’ve been getting other and better offers, don’t be afraid to point that out. You can save a ton of money and pay things off quicker when you pay less interest.

Go Bank Free

This doesn’t mean stop using banks, it just means stop of giving the bank more of your money. There are numerous free checking options. You might also be able to lose the fees by going paperless and doing online banking or mobile banking. It’s worth checking into. If your bank doesn’t offer free checking, lots of others do. As noted above, don't be afraid to ask for things. In this case, ask for higher interest rate accounts.

Reward Time

Discounts are great and so are coupons and price matching, but don’t overlook cash back on purchases. There are lots of sites that offer cash back as well as some companies that have their own rewards programs. Take advantage of these. If a company wants to reward you for doing business with them then by all means, let them. Rewards cards are available from a number of places including some gas stations. Hey, if you drive, you’re always going to need gas, so why not get something back for buying it from the same company on a regular basis?

Don’t buy, DIY

Another great way to save money is by learning how to fix, repair, mend, or maintain your items instead of instantly replacing them the minute something goes wrong. Some repairs or maintenance requirements are really quite simple, once you learn how to do them. You can probably Youtube it real quick and see. If it looks like something you can do on your own, give it a try. You can always call the repair guy or go ahead with the new purchase if it doesn’t work out, but you might just be surprised by how much you can accomplish (and by how much money you save).

Budget isn’t a Bad Word

The thought of budgeting can be overwhelming for some. If you find yourself saying, “I’m just not good with money,” consider using a budget planning tool. You can find some free online that will help you get your finances more organized. Instead of struggling to pay bills on time, you’ll soon be setting money aside to meet those obligations ahead of time. You might also realize that you’re spending more than you thought. Seeing it in black and white can be a real eye-opener.

*Many people work hard to make money online, but saving more money can also become your new ‘gig,’ and the best part is that it really pays.

Overstocking is also one reason for the increase in expenses. We buy the same groceries again without checking the stock. Buying limited amount of groceries will save lot of money.

A very nice tips you have written. I appreciate it especially the paragraph that discussed on learning to repair, fix and management your appliances. This is very important and it's save money, there are basic domestic repairs that we can learn without stress like fix your bulb, repair of socket, servicing your generator and lots more.

Very true. It helps to keep a list, and write down what is needed as you go. Then, you can follow the list instead of just buying random stuff that you may not need.

Thank you. These days, there seems to be a tutorial for almost everything online, including video tutorials. We have learned to fix and care for a lot of things ourselves, and it definitely helps us save a bunch.

We do a lot of our own fixes too.

I don't use many apps, so I can't really vouch for any. I did find this one that you might want to look at:

If more people would use your advice they would definitely have more money.
Banks are leeching everybody today, so stop using their unnecessary services is a great way to start saving.
Also, too many people know so little to do with their hands, it is surprising they know how to breathe on their own.
Learning new skills for life should be a priority.

Nice article, I love the DIY aspect. Believe me, it can save lots of cash but one should be careful and not be ashamed to ask questions when they have some difficulties on the way.

Thank you all.

@chaz, some people have to learn the hard way. One of my kids is seeing that now (recently moved out on her own and learning to do more for herself).

@chekdn, it's amazing how much people spend on just a service call, only to find that it was something simple. I like doing DIY stuff anyway, so I guess that's a good thing.

@chikita, saving on one thing gives you more to spend on another. :D

@ceci, that is wonderful. Paying off your home faster will be a huge accomplishment, and great savings.

@raaman, like the quote says, pennies saved are pennies earned... dollars are even better!

Only buy what you need. No need wasting money especially on fashion that are dynamic.Just get your needs and conserve the rest.

I think that buying food that can spoil easily can be a source of extra spending.
Fashion is easier if you have second hand shop and someone in family who knows how to use a sewing machine.

Keeping up with trendy fashions and fads is certainly expensive. You can save a lot by buying basic, quality, clothing instead. Good point.

Yes, making more money is certainly a worthy goal and will give your more options for saving.

Buy those types of foods in small quantities (if at all) and use them quickly to avoid waste.

I like thrift shops for lots of things. You can save a lot of money, and you can also get unique stuff.
