Humor : Entertainment : Review : Ottoman Detective Mystery TV Series : Do Evil People Ever Stop Thinking?

Postby cmoneyspinner » 29 May 2017, 16:52

Filinta Mustafa, an Ottoman Detective TV Series, set in 19th century Istanbul.

If you watch this series, you'll get the joke and why I ask the question “Do Evil People Ever Stop Thinking?”

There was one episode where there are so many dead bodies and crimes happening, the police detective said: “Oy! It's raining corpses today in Istanbul!”

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. The good guys were super awesome!

If there were no evil, there would be nothing for them to think about Lol. Glad you like the show. As per the show, dealing with local criminals and those from half way around the world in 19th century Istanbul sounds a lot like the reality set before us today. This highlights the fact that whether we are in centuries long ago or current times, there is nothing new under the sun. Evil has been trying to wrestle with good for a long time but in the end Good wins. So many choices in life and so many consequences.

* * The series has a lot of episodes. I am only halfway through. It certainly keeps my attention. Oh! By the way. I left out the Germans. They're in the mix too! :D

Finished this series. By the time it was over I was worn out! I took a breather and was actually going to go back and REVIEW. I don't do that often with TV series, i.e. RE-watch them. But this particular one, I wanted to go over a few episodes because there were a few things I missed. However, when I went to check Netflix had already deleted it from the database. I won't say whether I liked the ending or not because I'm afraid it would be a "spoiler" no matter what I said. In case you haven't watched it, it's definitely a "first of its kind". I am watching a similar series. It isn't nearly as exciting. I think "Filinta Mustafa" may not only be a "first of its kind" but a "one of a kind".

On Netflix we have been watching, "Murder in Paradise." (British humor)

The Chief Detective is a "Stuffed Shirt Brit" stuck on an Island similar to Jamaica. Everyone is laid back and enjoying themselves except for him. (BTW, his chief detective is French & female) :)

Start with Season 1, Episode 1.

Enjoy,

I haven't heard of it but it sounds interesting. Too bad it is no longer on Netflix. Maybe they will bring it back. I love watching mysteries. We used to watch the Masterpiece Theater on PBS when I was young and there was always mysteries on there like Agatha Christie's series. P.D. James also had some shows featured from her Inspector Delgleish (not sure of the spelling).

I have watched Miss Fischer's murder mysteries which is Australian on Netflix and a couple of British ones. One of them was called Rosemary and Thyme and the other one is Midsomer's Murders. Both are really good.

* * That is a fun show. We watched it on our public TV station before Netflix added the series to their database. It's very enjoyable.

* * I watched most of the ones you named. I only saw a few episodes of "Rosemary and Thyme". I did like the series. I got stuck on "Murdoch Mysteries", Constable William Murdoch, the Canadian Sherlock Holmes with a brain like Tesla. That's the best way to describe him. I had to go find the new shows at another site because Netflix didn't add the seasons to their database. I thought they would eventually, but I got tired of waiting. I also watched all of "Father Brown" and "Doctor Blake" shows. Another series I am trying to find is "Grantchester". Started watching it on PBS and then missed the episodes because sometimes my husband hogs the TV.

I watched the Mustafa series several months ago and it whet my appetite for Turkish drama. However, when I tried to watch some other Turkish TV shows, I just couldn't get into them until … my husband found “20 Minutes”.

This one is not in an historical setting. It's modern day. You know it's modern day because everybody has a cell phone and a laptop. Also, grandma and grandpa won a flat screen TV in their club lottery. It made the grandkids really happy when they came over to visit. :D

20 Dakika ("20 Minutes") is a love story.

Summary of the plot in one sentence?
~ Uuuuhhh ... It's complicated.

59 episodes. My husband and I literally lost sleep over it.
Couldn't binge watch it in a day, Took us a few days to get through it.

STARS:
Tuba Büyüküstün AS Melek Halaskar
İlker Aksum AS Ali Halaskar

It's an award-winning series and I'm glad it made its way to a US audience. English subtitles. But I learned at least one Turkish word. Evet! :D

I have enjoyed most of the Turkish dramas I watched on Netflix but I've gone back to my Korean dramas. I am finishing up the episodes for a Netflix original called Mr. Sunshine. I really like the lead character. He was in one of the Terminator movies. He's a really good actor.
