That 90s Show - I Love It, and Here's What's Wrong

Postby friendociate » 21 Jan 2023, 12:07

I'm an X-ennial (my parents are Baby-Boomers (making me Generation X), but 'the years they say the generations were born' puts me in the Millennial group (until such time as--@Netherrealmer tells us--they added X-ennials to the Generation-list).

I say that because I read a weird fact about Gen Y (a term for Millennials before 'Millennials' took hold) ... people think we Millennials were raised by our grandparents (you're grandparents are the ones that were born 'two generations before you,' right?).

That fact comes to mind because--rather than watch Eric & Donna raise their kid (Leia 'Tattooine' (because Eric never agreed to 'Anne') Foreman)--it looks like we're gonna watch Leia & her friends grow up IN HER GRANDPARENTS' BASEMENT (the same place where Eric & Donna & Kelso & Jackie & Fez & Hyde (those first two pairs got married ... about that last couple, I don't know ... I've watched the rest of the season now---Fez is a single (but dating Red & Kitty's new nextdoor neighbor) metrosexual in Point Place, and Hyde ... I don't know if Steven was even in the FLASHBACKS )

I've only seen the first episode of the new series. Did they HAVE a "That 80s Show" (that didn't do so well)?

The show must survive 2 Seasons before I commit, It is Netflix we are chatting about here. Netflix have a dirty reputation when it comes to Survival of American shows.

Like I said, I've only seen the first episode ... which was essentially 'a reunion episode' (that introduced some new kids). And I'm pretty sure there are gonna be some more 'reunion episodes' throughout the season.

I enjoyed it. Yes, there was a "That 80's Show" a few year back. I've only seen one episode of it so I can't say whether it was any good.

Looking at it now, it was cancelled after one 13-episode season---for good reason.
isotope2112 wrote:... The characters are lifeless, as is the acting and script. I also found the cinematography very annoying... I can't really put my finger on it, but it had a jerky, almost strobe-light quality. Very reminiscent of music videos from the era, or a webcam. I don't know if it was done intentionally for effect... but it was stupid....

But it DID give usChyler Leigh (who went on to star as Supergirl's foster sister).

Intersting name, xChyler - they say it means Beloved, Darling, or "Hope for the Future," and might be derived from the name Cheryl, and is related to the names xChylar xChyleigh xShyler xCyler xXchyler xChyree xCholer xChylee xMechad xCailer xKyler xChellar.

And the surname xLeigh is built on words that mean Delicate, Meadow, Weary, Pasture, Gift of God, Strong, Healer, related to the names xLee xLeighann xLeighanne xLiegh xLeigha xLeighton xLevi.
